What method do you use for allergy testing?
Skin prick allergy testing.
What is the different between skin prick testing and patch testing?
Skin prick allergy testing applies the allergens under the superficial layer of skin and is completed in 20 minutes, whereas patch testing is a patch containing the allergens applied topically and left on for a longer period of time (sometimes up to a week). Skin prick allergy testing is more commonly used for environmental/airborne allergens, and patch testing for contact allergens.
What allergens do you test for?
We test for the most common allergens that contribute to allergic rhinitis. These allergens include perennial and seasonal airborne/environmental allergens such as dander, local pollens and molds.
Do you test for food allergies?
No. Food allergies are more commonly associated with gastrointestinal symptoms and are difficult to diagnose accurately through skin prick testing. Unless you are investigating an anaphylactic reaction, we recommend consulting a registered dietitian for recommendations and to determine if an elimination diet would be appropriate. www.thewellnessdietitian.ca
How long does allergy testing take?
Skin prick allergy testing takes 20 minutes to develop once it has been applied and we will go through the results and counselling with you once the test is complete. Prepare to be at our office for 40-60 minutes as we complete a physical assessment, medication review and counselling for avoidance therapies once the test results have developed.

Is therapeutic Botox covered by health care?
In some very select cases therapeutic Botox may be covered by MSP, however, most often it is not. It may be also be covered by private health benefit plans.
What is the difference between botox and fillers?
Botox is a drug class call neuromodulators which relax the muscle it is injected into, decreasing fine lines and wrinkles. Fillers provides volume, it can replace volume that is lost to the aging process, or to enhance areas of the face such as the lips, chin, jaw, cheeks and temples.
How do neuromodulators (Botox/Dysport/Xeomin) work?
Contraction or hyperactivity of head and neck muscles can result in lines, wrinkles or troughs in the skin which get deeper and more permanent the longer they go untreated. Blocking or weakening the contraction relaxes the muscles preventing them from creasing the skin. Botox/Dysport/Xeomin are intramuscular medications that temporarily weaken and/or block the nerve signal that causes the muscle to contract.
Consultations are always complimentary and non-obligatory. Book a consultation today to see if a neuromodulation treatment is right for you!
Do Botox/Dysport/Xeomin injections hurt?
At Basis, our injection technique involves gently rolling the bevel of the needle into the skin, as opposed to a traditional pushing method. This approach significantly reduces the risk of bleeding and bruising and many patients report minimal discomfort during their injections.
We want to make sure you're as comfortable as possible during your injection appointment and offer options such as applying ice for numbing, taking intermittent breaks, or utilizing numbing cream as needed.
Will I look different after my neuromodulator treatment (ie. Botox)?
Basis injectable results are #NextToNatural. Imagine the peaceful and refreshing aftermath of a rejuvenating vacation, complete with restful sleep. Our results are never "over-done," and our approach is conservative, yet effective. We use clinically trialed dosing to optimize our results.
Our patients often report feeling and looking brighter, more alert, healthier, and younger.
What are the risks of neuromodulator treatments (ie. Botox)?
Some patients notice mild headaches for a couple of hours after treatment, this can be treated with Ibuprofen and/or Acetaminophen.
There is a rare risk of allergic reaction to the medication, infection, bleeding, bruising or pain. The risk of facial droop or ptosis is 1- 5% and is significantly mitigated by a specialized registered nurse and a surgeon completing pre-treatment assessments and markings.
How long do neuromodulators (ie. Botox) last and when should I plan to come back?
We always administer clinically-trialed doses considering the specific muscle, patient disposition, and patient goals. It is clinically proven that dosing equals duration; therefore, the goal and expectation are for results to last 3.5-4 months.
Keep in mind, Dysport results can often last 3-6 weeks longer than Botox. You may book your re-care appointment before you leave the clinic, or we will email you a reminder when your time comes up for re-care.
What is filler and how does it work?
Dermal fillers are an injectable hyaluronic acid used to add volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. They work by adding or replacing volume that has been lost.
At Basis, we use Restylane, the industry standard hyaluronic acid, as our dermal filler. This is available in various consistencies to enhance facial volume dependant on area and needs. These fillers effectively treat areas such as lips, cheeks, chin, jaw, marionette lines and nasolabial folds, providing a more youthful and fuller appearance.
Do filler injections hurt?
Dermal filler injections can cause some discomfort, but it's usually minimal. All of the fillers used at Basis contain a local anesthetic to help numb the area and reduce pain during the procedure. Topical numbing ointment may also be applied. Some people might experience slight swelling or bruising afterward, but this will be resolved within 4-7 days.
How long does filler last?
Generally, dermal fillers can last between 6 to 18 months. This can vary depending on the patient, the type of filler used and the treatment area. Some fillers can last up to 2 years or longer with regular maintenance.
Do you use a cannula or needle for lip filler?
At Basis, we predominantly use the needle technique for lip fillers. This approach allows for greater precision and tends to be more comfortable for our patients.
Although there are rare instances where a combination of a cannula and needle may be used for optimal results, a skilled injector will find that using a needle and frequently changing it achieves the best results. This method is central to #theBasisWay.
What are Skinboosters?
Skinboosters are a cosmetic treatment designed to hydrate and improve the overall texture of your skin. Unlike traditional dermal fillers that target deeper folds or areas of volume loss, Skinboosters work by injecting hyaluronic acid directly into the skin using fine needles in the targeted areas.
The result? Instant glow, hydration, and skin texture improvement.

If you were referred to see the dietitian by Dr. Dautremont, the appointment will be focused on how nutrition may be playing a part in your symptoms or condition.
